Novo Nordisk never sold Rybelsus through its cash-price pharmacy, and the tablet is being replaced by the Ozempic pill at $149 to $299 a month. Here's what that means for your bill.
Rybelsus cost is hard to pin down in 2026, because Novo Nordisk has no self-pay offer for it (checked 10/18/2026). Pharmacies still sell it for cash, but at their own prices, which we couldn't verify. Its savings card can bring a covered fill down to $25.
There's a reason. In the US, Rybelsus is being replaced by the Ozempic pill, a reformulated semaglutide tablet. That pill does have a cash price: $149 to $299 a month, depending on strength.
Below: what Rybelsus costs with a card, what the replacement costs, and how daily tablets compare with weekly pens on price.
What happened to Rybelsus?
Novo is retiring the name in the US. NovoCare's Rybelsus page now opens with a plain line: RYBELSUS® is being replaced by Ozempic® pill.
Novo's 05/01/2026 release says Ozempic tablets went on sale on 05/04/2026. It also says Rybelsus will still be sold outside the US.
The release says the original 3 mg, 7 mg and 14 mg tablets were reformulated as 1.5 mg, 4 mg and 9 mg. Novo says the new pill works similarly to semaglutide tablets 3 mg, 7 mg, and 14 mg.
You can't swap on your own. NovoCare says anyone moving from Rybelsus to the Ozempic pill needs a new prescription. Which strength you get is your prescriber's call.
How much does Rybelsus cost with the savings card?
As little as $25, if your commercial plan covers it. Novo's savings terms set that price effective 01/02/2026.

Novo Nordisk savings offer and self-pay terms (Ozempic and Rybelsus)
Rybelsus: from 01/02/2026 pay as little as $25 with commercial coverage, max $100 per 1-month fill ($200/2 months, $300/3 months for 7 and 14 mg); offer excludes full cash-paying patients. Ozempic pill self-pay $149 (1.5 mg), $199 (4 mg), $299 (9 mg); pen $349 or $499
It saves at most $100 per 1-month fill, $200 per 2-month fill and $300 per 3-month fill.
The 3 mg strength is limited to a 1-month fill per use.
A month means 30 days of tablets.
The terms say the offer excludes full cash-paying patients.
So the card only helps if your plan already pays part of the bill. If your plan bills you $180 for a month, the card takes off $100 and you pay $80. If your share is $110, you pay $25.
Rybelsus.com describes the card as being for commercially insured patients with product coverage only. Medicare and Medicaid don't count.
Does Novo have a Rybelsus self-pay price?
No. Pharmacies can still sell it for cash, but Novo has no offer. Its release on the Ozempic pill spells it out:
This marks the first time semaglutide in a pill for type 2 diabetes is being offered through NovoCare® Pharmacy.
In other words, Rybelsus never had a NovoCare self-pay price.
The Rybelsus list price is murky too. NovoCare's Rybelsus list-price page now sends visitors to its general diabetes page, so we couldn't confirm a current figure (checked 10/18/2026).
What we do know is the plan. Novo announced on 02/24/2026 that the list price of Rybelsus 7 mg and 14 mg tablets will be $675 from 01/01/2027.
That announcement named Rybelsus, Ozempic injection and Wegovy. It didn't mention the Ozempic pill, which went on sale later. NovoCare lists the Ozempic pill at $1,027.51 per bottle today (checked 10/18/2026).
Why care about a list price you never pay? If your plan charges coinsurance, a percentage of the price, the list price sets your share. The same goes if it bills you in full until you meet a deductible. Ask your plan which number it uses for the pill you're actually prescribed.
How much is the Ozempic pill that replaces Rybelsus?
$149 to $299 a month for a bottle of 30 tablets, through NovoCare Pharmacy or select telehealth providers (checked 10/18/2026).

Ozempic pill self-pay $149 (1.5 mg), $199 (4 mg), $299 (9 mg); pen $349 or $499
There's no discount for buying more. Novo's terms price three bottles of the 9 mg pill at $897, which is three times $299.
The savings card carries over, too. NovoCare says people with a Rybelsus savings offer can continue to use their offer to get a discount on Ozempic®. For pills, the card's cap is the same $100 a month.
On insurance, NovoCare says the Ozempic pill will have the same coverage as RYBELSUS®. Your plan still sets the copay. It may also require prior authorization, which means your prescriber has to show the plan you meet its rules.
At Novo's cash prices, the lowest-priced tablet costs less per month than any pen (checked 10/18/2026):

Novo Nordisk savings offer and self-pay terms (Ozempic and Rybelsus)
Rybelsus: from 01/02/2026 pay as little as $25 with commercial coverage, max $100 per 1-month fill ($200/2 months, $300/3 months for 7 and 14 mg); offer excludes full cash-paying patients. Ozempic pill self-pay $149 (1.5 mg), $199 (4 mg), $299 (9 mg); pen $349 or $499
The cheapest pill, $149, is $200 less than the $349 pen. Even the most expensive Ozempic pill, $299, costs $50 less than the $349 pen.
Over a year the gap grows, because the two forms count a month differently. A bottle of 30 tablets covers 30 days, while a pen month is 28 days.
Twelve bottles of the Ozempic pill cover 360 days: $1,788 at 1.5 mg, $2,388 at 4 mg or $3,588 at 9 mg.
Thirteen Ozempic pens cover 364 days: $4,537 at $349 each, or $6,487 at the 2 mg pen's $499.
That's our arithmetic from Novo's monthly prices, before any intro discount.
Two cautions. First, these are different products with different labels: Ozempic is for type 2 diabetes, and Wegovy is for weight management and heart risk. Your diagnosis decides which one a prescriber can write and which savings terms apply.
Second, a lower monthly price isn't a reason to switch forms. Tablets are taken daily and pens weekly, and the strengths aren't interchangeable milligram for milligram. That's a conversation for your prescriber.
The Rybelsus label, revised 01/2026, now covers both Rybelsus and Ozempic tablets, each in bottles of 30.
Medicare Part D plans set their own coverage for type 2 diabetes drugs, so check your plan's drug list. Rybelsus isn't part of the $50 Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, which covers certain weight-loss drugs only.
The Rybelsus savings card is closed to Medicare. If your Part D plan covered Rybelsus, NovoCare's same-coverage statement suggests asking the plan how it handles the Ozempic pill before you refill.
Before you pay
1Still on Rybelsus? Ask your prescriber about the Ozempic pill. NovoCare says the switch needs a new prescription.
2Check your plan's drug list. NovoCare says the Ozempic pill has the same coverage as Rybelsus, but plans set their own rules.
3Have a Rybelsus savings card? NovoCare says you can keep using it for the Ozempic pill. The card still stops at $100 off a month.
4Paying cash? Novo has no Rybelsus self-pay offer. The Ozempic pill's self-pay price runs $149 to $299 a month by strength.
5Confirm the price with NovoCare or your pharmacy before you pay. Novo says it can change or cancel these offers at any time.
How we checked
We read every price and term on Novo Nordisk's own pages on 10/18/2026, and each table lists its sources with that date. Where Novo no longer publishes a figure, we say so instead of filling the gap. When anything changes, we date the correction here and add it to the price change log.
